Biggest rookie mistake I made–only taking photos in orthogonal views (dorsal/medial/lateral/ventral), as if for publication. They are nice for future pubs, but often some oblique views are more informative to convey aspects of morphology. So, I would advise to take those nicely centered and oriented views, and then take a few at various angles to be useful later on!
